Meet Hugo. my gorgeous little nephew. He is 2 1/2 years old and has been diagnosed with a rare, genetic form of Ataxia. Cerebellar Hypoplasia is a neurological condition in which the cerebellum - the part of the brain that coordinates movement - is smaller than usual or not completely developed.
As a family, we have been fighting for a diagnosis since he was 5 months old. He started to miss important milestones, have a lack of eye contact, low muscle tone, unable to hold his own head, and no ability to sit, crawl or move by himself. He is still undergoing many tests and is under the care of Great Ormond Street and Moorfields. We have been told that as it is such a rare condition, they cannot tell us what the future holds for Hugo.
NHS Physiotheraphy is not aiding Hugo at all so we had to go private. Wipe Away The Tears are a local charity that have donated £1000 to fund 10 sessions of private physio. In these sessions, Hugo’s progress is astounding. He is so much stronger and can now sit and is starting to commando crawl ... something we never thought would be possible. Due to the cost of these sessions we as a family, are now fundraising to be able to afford extra sessions. Mini Wonders is the physiotheraphy company that he attends and they are amazing. He has come on so much over the last 10 sessions so we hope with more sessions, he will one day be able crawl or maybe even walk.
Thank-you for taking the time to read and for supporting this amazing strong little boy.
